Quartet Cybele Plus 1 is a Washington, D.C.–based jazz ensemble led by vocalist Cybele Mayes-Osterman, whose classic, elegant sound draws inspiration from legendary artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Anchored by a core quartet of vocals, piano, bass, and drums—and expanded with the addition of saxophone—the group has become a prominent presence in the D.C. jazz scene, performing regularly at respected local venues and contributing to the city’s rich musical culture.

At the heart of the ensemble is Cybele Mayes-Osterman (also known by her social media handle @bellbonicplague), a highly regarded vocalist who has earned a reputation as one of Washington, D.C.’s finest jazz singers. Her expressive phrasing and deep connection to the jazz tradition have been showcased at venues including Bukom Cafe, Marx Cafe, and Pearl Street Warehouse. Under her leadership, Quartet Cybele Plus 1 is known for fresh, engaging interpretations of the Great American Songbook, while also exploring creative musical crossovers—occasionally weaving jazz sensibilities into classic rock and other genres through Mayes-Osterman’s related projects.
